Banners and roll-up stands in Kigali: types and prices
2026-08-27 · 6 min

Ask us for "a banner" in Kigali and the next question back is always the same: which kind? A PVC banner for a wall or fence starts at around RWF 25,000. A retractable roll-up stand for a reception desk or conference booth starts at around RWF 60,000. An X-banner starts at around RWF 45,000, and a wind-resistant mesh banner for an outdoor fence starts at around RWF 35,000. Here is what each one is actually built for, what it costs at our Kigali studio, and how to pick the right one for your event or shopfront.

PVC banners - the everyday workhorse
A PVC banner is heavy-duty vinyl with hemmed edges and metal eyelets, made to be tied, screwed or zip-tied to a wall, fence, gate or scaffold. It is the cheapest way to cover a large area with colour and text, and it survives being rolled up, stored and reused for a season if it is not left in direct sun year-round. This is the right choice for a shop opening, a fence at a construction site, a stage backdrop, or a wall behind a registration desk. Ask for pole pockets instead of eyelets if the banner needs to hang between two poles rather than being tied at each corner.
Roll-up banners, X-banners and pull-up stands
These three all solve the same problem - a self-standing banner you can carry, set up in under a minute and take away at the end of the day - and the difference is mostly cost and how often you will use it. A roll-up (or pull-up) banner retracts into a metal or aluminium base with a carry bag, so the printed film is protected between events; it is the standard choice for reception desks, conference booths and shop entrances because it looks the most finished. An X-banner uses a lightweight frame that folds flat rather than a retracting mechanism, so it costs less and travels easily, which suits a one-off event, a market stall or a second or third banner for a booth where a full roll-up is not worth the extra spend. Both use the same printed film, so image quality is identical - the choice is really about budget and how many times a year the stand comes out of storage.
Mesh banners for wind and outdoor fences
Anywhere a PVC banner would act like a sail in the wind - a fence around a football pitch, an outdoor stage, a construction hoarding on a windy stretch of road - a perforated mesh banner is the right material. The small holes let air pass through instead of catching it, so the banner stays up and the eyelets and hems do not tear loose in the first storm. It costs a little more than solid PVC for the same size, but it is far cheaper than replacing a torn banner mid-campaign, and it is the material we recommend by default for anything staying outdoors for more than a few days.
Flags for events, shopfronts and summits
Flags earn their place when a business needs to be spotted from a distance rather than read up close. Teardrop and feather flags on a ground spike or cross base mark an entrance, a market stall or the edge of a car park, and their curved shape catches the eye even in still air. Wall and hanging flags work indoors, dropped from a ceiling or hung against a stage wall at a conference. For desks, panel discussions and delegate tables, small desk flags on a wooden or chrome base look sharper than a paper name card, and for summits, embassies and offices, country and pole flags cover national flags alongside a custom branded one on the same pole set.
Choosing the right one for your event
Start with where the piece will stand, not what looks impressive in a catalogue. A reception desk or booth that gets used at several events over the year is worth a proper roll-up stand, because the protective case pays for itself by the third or fourth outing. A one-day launch, a market stall or a tight budget suits an X-banner or a PVC banner tied to whatever is already there. Anything outdoors and exposed to wind should be mesh, not solid PVC, full stop. And anything that needs to be seen from across a car park or a football pitch is a job for a flag, not a banner at ground level. If you are planning a full conference, our conference branding package and event branding checklist cover backdrops, badges and signage in one order, and a branded tent or gazebo handles anything that needs shade as well as a logo.
Materials that survive Kigali sun and rain
Our equatorial sun fades cheap ink within a season, and heavy rainy-season downpours find any weak hem or eyelet. We print on UV-stable material with solvent inks that hold their colour outdoors, and every PVC and mesh banner leaves our studio hemmed and eyeleted so it can be tied down properly rather than tearing at the corner in the first gust. Roll-up and X-banner film is designed for repeated indoor use and should come indoors between events if it will see more than a handful of outings - direct sun through a shopfront window will fade even a good print over a year or two.
What to put on a banner
A banner gets read from a distance in a few seconds, so keep it to what actually needs saying: your logo, one short line of what the event or offer is, and a single phone number or website in the largest text you can fit. Leave off small print, long addresses and more than one call to action - nobody standing across a room or driving past a fence reads a paragraph. If the banner is for a specific event, put the date and venue on it rather than leaving it generic, and if it will be reused season after season, leave the date off entirely and keep it evergreen.
How ordering works with us
Tell us the size, where it will be used and roughly how many pieces you need. That is enough for a clear, itemised quote, usually within the hour. We produce a digital mock-up so you see your design on the actual banner or stand before anything is printed, and your artwork stays on file so reordering for the next event is a phone call. Finished pieces are delivered across Kigali and anywhere in Rwanda, and for conferences and launches we can deliver and set everything up on-site. Browse the full range on our large format page.
